Welcome to my running page.  I have been running since I was 16 years old and haven't stopped since then.  I
began running when I moved to a high school that did not have a soccer team as a sport, so I decided that since I
ran all day playing soccer that running would be something that I would enjoy.  Well sort of as I soon came to find
out.  I was fortunate to have a running coach Mr. Lynn Cutsforth who although was sometimes a hardass
especially when you didn't run your 440's under 70 seconds and would make you run another one for punishment.
I was fortunate to make varsity both years and my senior year at Franklin High School I was number two runner.
At college I ran just because I wanted to stay in shape, and never really did any racing.

It wasn't until I joined the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant that I began on running because I really enjoyed it and it was
my time to be alone and work out any issues I had at work or in my life.  While stationed in Schwabach West
Germany from 1983-86, I started running on the trails throughout the outskirts of the city and the kaserne and feel
in love with trail running.  Being single my first year over there I was doing some serious miles in the morning and
in the evenings.  On weekends it wasn't out of the ordinary to do a 10 KVolksmarch running with some of the other
LT's in the unit then on Sunday crank out a 20 K run by myself along the Donau Kanal or in a volksmarch
somewhere in Bavaria.  I ran races from the 10K to 1/2 Marathon with a personal best of 1:30.13 in the Fulda Half
Marathon in 1984.  I was also the first American runner to place in the 10K run that our kaserne used to have as
part of German-American week, the meant either a second or third place finish.

After getting married in 84 I was fortunate that Carmen understood what running meant to me so I could go out
with the guys early on the weekends and hit some trails.

After moving back to the US it was Ft. Lee and the Petersburg Battlefield where I would crank out the miles and
the scenery along some of the same trails that both Yanks and Reb's used in 1864-65 was gorgeous.

Since I left active duty Army and moved out to California I have been blessed with great running weather and with
a great group of runners who run together in Los Gatos on Saturdays and sometimes during the week.  Thanks fo
them running those 15-20 mile runs is so much easier, plus the chit chat and banter makes the time on the roads
or trails fly by quickly.

Here is a picture of me running in the Skyline to Sea 50 K race last year up in the Santa Cruz Mountains at the 26
miles mark.
